Bellevue Linux Users Group (BELUG) takes pride in the high standards and diversity of its membership. Members have a wide range of skills, experience and interests in the computer field as well as in other areas. The common bonds are, of course, an interest in Linux and/or other free software and enjoyment of participating in the informal and free-ranging BELUG meetings. Among the many areas of computer expertise of members are programming, embedded devices, system administration, compilers, device drivers, security, marketing and technical writing. Members typically have extensive experience with several operating systems in addition to Linux, such as Macintosh, Solaris and various Microsoft Windows systems. Many members also have considerable non-computer skills, some of which can also be valuable for computer-related work. Among them are electronics, materials science, optics, project planning, economics and foreign languages (including Japanese, Chinese, German and some Indian languages). Most members have busy schedules, with much of their time devoted to work at companies or with their own businesses or projects. Employers span a wide range of organizations, including some of the largest and most prestigious technology companies. A few members are students. Several hold Ph.D.'s from leading universities. In addition to their professional activities, some members are also engaged in volunteer activities. These activities span a variety of areas, not just the promotion of Linux and other free software, but also assisting the disadvantaged and senior citizens, protecting the environment and promoting veterans rights. Although most members are currently not actively looking for new jobs or projects, some are willing to consider new opportunities if they are particularly interesting (e.g., are in their area of specialty and have potential for learning and/or creativity) or if they are of a temporary or part time nature. Brief summaries of specific skill sets and experience of selected members are presented below. Real names and detailed resumes are not included in order to protect the privacy of members. Companies or other organizations wishing to contact any members with any of the skills listed above or with the following skill sets should send an e-mail to bellevuelinux at yahoo.com.
